TERENCE BAY WRECK SITE (BcCw-10)

The Terence Bay Wreck Site is located in Wreck Cove, Lower Prospect, Nova Scotia. The Underwater Archaeology Society of Nova Scotia (UASNS) carried out a survey and excavation of the Terence Bay Wreck Site during the early 1980s. Based on the results of the excavation, the UASNS concluded the shipwreck was a New England fishing schooner that had wrecked in Wreck Cove during the 1750s. A preliminary assessment carried out in 2014 concluded that natural benthic erosion and scouring was continuing to occur on the site exposing additional features indicating that a reassessment of the wreck site was needed.

During 2015, a maritime archaeological research project was undertaken to evaluate the current state of preservation of the site and to reassess the sites cultural resource potential. The first phase of this research project included an underwater archaeological reconnaissance survey of the exposed elements of the wreck site with additional testing under a Heritage Research Permit.
